Trump Pledges to 'Rescue Vaping Again' Despite Prior Partial Ban – Here’s His Plan
Donald Trump has vowed to "rescue vaping" if he regains the presidency, despite previously supporting a partial ban on some e-cigarette products during his time in office.
What Happened: On Friday, Trump took to Truth Social to criticize President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, accusing them of wanting to "ban everything." He also referenced his prior efforts to regulate the vaping industry.
Back in 2019, Trump introduced measures aimed at restricting certain e-cigarette products, which he claims helped curb underage vaping. “I saved flavored vaping in 2019, and it helped many quit smoking. I raised the age limit to 21 to protect kids. Kamala and Joe want to ban everything, hurting small businesses across the country. I’ll save vaping again!” Trump posted.
Why It Matters: Trump's renewed pledge to "save vaping" comes amid ongoing discussions about the health implications and regulatory approaches to e-cigarettes. His previous move to restrict vaping was largely driven by concerns over its growing popularity among minors.
However, critics argued that the partial ban didn’t do enough to address public health concerns.
Trump’s current promise to "rescue vaping" could signify a shift in his approach to e-cigarette regulations, potentially affecting both the vaping industry and future health policies. In 2019, his administration faced pushback after proposing a complete ban on flavored vape products. By January 2020, Trump opted for a more limited ban, restricting the sale of sweet and fruity flavored pods in places like gas stations and convenience stores, while still allowing menthol products and vape shop sales of e-liquid for open-tank systems favored by adult users.
Vice President Harris, during her time as California's attorney general, supported legislation to prevent minors from accessing e-cigarettes back in 2015.
